Weekend Treasure Hunt

This past weekend I went back to the old spot where I found my 1819 large cent from the previous Saturday. Again, small wooded area across from an old cemetery. I don't like getting to close to the cemetery because people might think you’re digging 6 feet for a body (LOL!).

The area that I have been metal detecting at has been hit pretty hard. So, I went into the thick stuff where I could barely fit the coil between fresh new pine ... Read More

Penny For Your Thoughts

I have been as guilty as the next metal detectorist, when it comes to putting those new pennies in the coin counter at your local bank. With metal detecting, the word you hear over and over is, is it a wheaty? If it's not a wheat penny, why bother keeping it? I still have a huge pile of pennies that I have still not gone through from this past spring of detecting! Here are some important things to keep in mind.

Benefits of Upgrading Your Detector

My buddy Jeff, from Hanover Massachusetts, had been metal detecting with his Bounty Hunter machine and decided it was time to move up a notch and went out to purchase a Garrett Ace 350. Shortly after he hit gold! Jeff and I decided to go out metal detecting together. I had received permission to hunt in an area that was ... Read More

Welcome Treasure Hunters

I remember my first time watching a man metal detecting at a local high school, when I was just ten years old. I still remember being under the tree, watching him search through a pile of dirt looking for something. I then saw two shining silver dimes which turned out to be mercury dimes. I remember saying to myself those dimes look different. A couple of years later I was starting to collect coins. By the age of thirteen I bought my first ... Read More
